There was an additional arm to hold them in place in place during play. The reason it was so tall was because you could stack 2 records on top of that tall spindle. The top spindle of the turntable was about 3 inches tall. The record players in these Magnavox units were relatively impressive for their time.

Magnavox stereo master console series#
When the room was dark, you could tell the unit was on if you looked at the base of the unit for the discreet little red light without having to open the top of the cabinet.Ĭan anybody provide me with information on a model or series to help me narrow down what I can about these particular variety of console stereo systems? The 8 track player was flush mounted (not angled like the one below), and had a side-eject well with red LED's for programs running vertically and silver buttons on either ends to toggle back and forth between programs.Īlso, along the very bottom of the front of the unit, just below where the 2 front doors met, there was a tiny little red piece of plastic which acted as a red filter for a very tiny bulb inside the unit. The receiver I remember was silver, more wider, and had more knobs than buttons (than the one in the pic below). The ones I grew up with both had silver trim. The receivers (and 8 track player) in these pictures all have black trim. I think this is probably due to those particular units probably being a few years older than mine. The units in the pics below look virtually identical (on the outside) to the one I grew up with.īut, the rest of the insides are a little bit different. It had casters, although it was still a heavy sob to move.Īnd it also had a gizmo attached to the inside of the cabinet by the turntable for playing 45 rpm singles. It would have been from the early to mid 1970's. I had no idea until recently that it was indeed an old Magnavox.

The one I grew up with was sold off by my folks about 20 years ago, and I definitely miss it. Only 2 are from the same unit that I'm aware of. There's 6 pictures below, but they're not all the same unit. A little while ago, I stumbled across some pictures online of a console series that I grew up with for many years.
